Snake plant care guide for UAE homes

Watering, light, and AC tips for Sansevieria in Dubai and Abu Dhabi apartments.

Snake plants (Sansevieria) are the UAE's most recommended beginner plant — and for good reason. They tolerate AC, irregular watering, and the bright indirect light common in Dubai tower living rooms.

Water only when the top 3–5 cm of soil is dry. In AC-heavy summers this may mean every 10–14 days; winter may stretch to three weeks for large pots. Overwatering causes root rot — the main snake plant killer in UAE apartments.

Place snake plants in bright indirect light near windows but away from direct south-west sun that scorches leaves. Bedrooms and hallways with medium light also work.

Keep pots away from cold AC louvers. Direct airflow browns leaf tips and dries soil unevenly. A monthly leaf wipe removes dust that accumulates faster in sealed UAE interiors.

Use pots with drainage holes. Decorative cachepots are fine if you empty saucers after watering. Cactus-mix or well-draining indoor soil prevents waterlogging.

Snake plants grow slowly in UAE AC — repot every 2–3 years in spring. Fertilise monthly from March to September with diluted indoor plant food.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I water a snake plant in Dubai?

Check soil weekly. Water every 10–14 days in summer AC, less in winter when soil stays moist longer.

Can snake plants live in bedroom AC?

Yes. They are among the best bedroom plants for UAE apartments with air conditioning.

Why are my snake plant tips brown in the UAE?

Usually cold AC drafts, fluoride-heavy tap water, or overwatering. Move away from vents and ensure drainage.

Do snake plants need sunlight in Dubai?

Bright indirect light is ideal but they tolerate medium and lower light better than most plants.
